OK, Cave-Troll asked for more so here is another one. This 1835 is unattributed simply because I'm lazy. I'm going to say it's an O-104, Yes an R-6 variety. I offer these pics with the required diagnostics for the 104. The 5 higher than the 0 and tilted to the left. The A is higher than the M and leans to the left, and the E R is wide spaced and out of line. What do you say? Thanks For Looking Bone
Well Bone it looks like Peterson and Parsley (Overton 4th ed.) list the 1835 O-104 as an R3 so there must have been a good sized group of them that have surfaced in the last 15 years. Additionally, I think that your coin is a o-107. It shares the same reverse die as 104 but has a different obverse. Star 1 on your coin points at a dentil and star 1 on o-104 points between dentils. Additionally, the 5 in the date on your coin is inconsistant with the 5 on the o-104. The 5 on o-107 has a horn shape pointing up and is recut to the right. Also there is a small die lump to the right of the lower portion of the 5 in the date. Here is another photo from Peterson that shows the 5's shape, recutting, and the die lump: If yours has the die lump and recutting (I can't tell from the photos) then it is a 107, no other marriage uses that particular obverse die. As for grade it looks VF-ish and if the color is accurate, then I think it has been dipped and has started to retone.
As usual , Your correct. Better look out now, last night I pulled out all my CBHs and got them idling on the dresser, LOL Take care B
lol! I can't wait! I hope the rest of the forum will tolerate us talking about bust halves all week long!
