I left my reading glasses at home when i left for the show today which greatly hindered my ability to see these coins before i brought them. This one i liked the clasp, but the fields might indicate a harsh cleaning. What do you think?
That coin is lovely Ruben. It doesn't look cleaned to me, I see most of the luster is still there. But it doesn't look MS either. Looks like an AU-55. What did you give for it if you don't mind?
I can't tell you, it was a gift. The flip say $750 but I know that wasn't the cost Look at the area left of the wing
Typical old coin chest marks. My great grandfathers chest was lined with a felt like material that left those sort of marks on plenty of his coins. I don't think that those marks alone would lead me to believe that this coin was cleaned. I'm sure that it could have taken a dip sometime in the past, but it looks good to me. I wouldn't hesitate to pick this coin up due to cleaning. Whether or not it would get a grade from PCGS or NGC is anyones guess, but I would think it would.
Surfaces look tooled, but has time to retone in an album. O.105 is only an R1 (on a rarity scale of 1 to 8), meaning it is amongst the most common die varieties during that year (w/ ten die varieties produced during this particular year). This really has no affect on the coin's value. -Brian
I really don't. Am I missing something here? This one looks more natural than many others that I have seen graded.
I don't know Ruben, I see what you are talking about now. I say it looks good, but maybe different in hand. I can tell you this, based on your images, I would purchase this coin for my collection.
Its hard to take a picture with my current step up with that detail. I have to get better lighting. It would also help if the guys laying down new track on the subway in my back yard would stop shaking the house. Ruben
