I like Bust halves but have never really gotten into varieties. I ask for help here as I had this one listed on Coinbug. Got a question about shipping actually but decided to check out the person making the question. Now I'm not saying anything bad about this person but after seeing his web site, organizations he belongs to as well as other listings (including an 1833) something didn't feel right so I ended the listing. I need some expert advice here. Was I being cherrypicked, paranoid? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/c2i410t2s2r226.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/c2i410t3s2r1690.jpg I appreciate the help and I CAN get bigger pics if required. clembo
My guess from the pictures would be an O-112, R-2. Right now, I don't have my main two (BUST HALF FEVER & OVERTON # 4) refrence books they're outside (in the jeep) and I'm too lazzy to go out and grab em' now. Based upon pictures and info from 1970-Overton #2. It looks like Star 10 is recut and the bsae of ST(A)TES (the A) is higher than the adjacent T. Tae Care Ben
Okay - been looking this for quite a while and I disagree - I think. In my book and Heritage the 5 is tall and leans to the left for a O-112. Plus the A looks really high compared to this one. I was thinking an O-110, because I think I see the die line going through the C towards the dot. Also the 18 looks slightly wider than the 833. Plus I would say some of the stars look clipped off.
Hey Ben! I was hoping you caught this reply so maybe we could discuss the variety. Really hard to do without the coin in hand, but looking for any tips.
Another question Not being an Overton guy what are the R scales? They differ so much so, for example, if it's an R2 what would the known population fall into? Thanks guys, clembo
I found this link that may help. http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=34194&highlight=rarity (If you can figure out wich R scale to use)
