Came across this seller who says he is selling the family's coin collection. There are a lot of nice old coins in seemingly great condition. However all of them are raw and I am not that great yet at telling if coins are cleaned are not. Here is a link to an 1832 capped bust half dime advertised as gem bu. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271199655552?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 If you look at his other items for sale, he has quite a bit. Do think any of these coins would be a good buy? I just noticed my spelling error in capped. That would be funny if Lady Liberty had a cape.
I think it looks cleaned and perhaps slightly bent to me. I think it also is a very high AU coin, not UNC. I have seen a lot of these sellers items go very high. Way over wholesale value. If you are patient and watching, you can get one of these coins for way under wholesale. I got a NGC Capped Bust Dime (Cleaned) NGC AU DETAILS for a little over $45.00. Good deals are out there, its just important to be patient.
Patience I have, I just want to get a decent deal on a coin that I know may not exactly be what it says it is. I am putting together a type set, and some of these coins I need.
I think you should pass on it, I think it will go for over $200.00. It's not worth the gamble if you're not 100% sure. Here's an example of a coin that I think would be UNC DETAILS Cleaned, maybe even AU. The seller called it MS 65 (NO WAY!). It sold for about $400.00 over what it should've in my opinion. I'd wait for a different listing from a different seller. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-MS-KEY...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 also this seller keeps his feedback private which I'm not a huge fan of.
It has some issues that I wouldn't personally like. If it weren't for whatever was happening at the 5:00 and 6:30 areas of the edge and rims, I'd might bite for $50 or less, but no more. Guy
Just take a look at his feedback. Almost every single one of them says that he over graded the coin or it is cleaned. In this case, it is most certainly the former and quite possibly the later.
Looks like almost all of this sellers coins are cleaned or have some type of problem. Page after page of them.
I just looked at this sellers feedback. Wow, talk about fraud! There is a group of sellers all feeding each other positive feedbacks with private auctions. I will gladly report all of them to Ebay for this practice.
I only looked af a few of the coins listed by this seller, but can tell you right now that if you want to be foolish it is entirely up to you.
