The picture of the reverse turned out terribly, and despite the small amount of dirt in places, I can assure you that it has no problems. The front however, I'm unsure about. It looks dark in places. I'm assuming that this means it was wiped, but I am not sure. Questions: Is it wiped? What's the grade, AU-55? 58? Was it worth my $180 bid, or should I send it back? I can try for better pictures tomorrow, also.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=370143517589 Here's the picture from the auction, it looks more dull there, but there definitely is a darkening in some places.
Why would you say it looks polished? I've seen polished coins before and it doesn't look anything like that, to me at least.
Because of the way it is reflecting light in those pics. Like I said, I can't really tell much about the coin based on those pics. See if you can get some that are in focus and get your light source up a little higher above the coin so it does not reflect that way. Then maybe we can see it.
Hmm, alright. I'll work on getting better pictures of this up tomorrow. Not tonight, that tends to give a nasty yellow glare to everything.
Return it. The coin is at best dipped and likely cleaned as well. You can do better for $180, IMO...Mike
Well, I assure you 99% that this coin has been cleaned. The main thing that gives it away is the dirt in between the letters on the reverse. Blech! But post better pics tomorrow so I can confirm what I have just said
Well I agree that the coin looks cleaned based off the pictures, but to me it does look like XF/AU details. Like the others better pictures are required.
The dirt on the reverse is just there, the reverse has not been cleaned. Sometimes there's just dirt remaining, but yeah, usually its a give away.
I'd also like to see better pictures of this coin. Some that not so much light is beaming from the coin. From what I can see the coin has alot of detail but I can be certain that both sides of this coin has been cleaned. IMHO its pretty obvious to me.
