I rarely buy US coinage and never seen a capped bust 1/2 dime until i obtained this one. Any guesses on the grade/value. I would guess about AU.
Nice 31 h- 10 ,Sort of hard to tell from your images, I say a nice Xf mid range. That would depend on the surfaces in hand. As a Bust Half dime collector myself looks like a nice score.
No doubt in my mind it's a scan, so no opinion on surfaces is really possible. Technical merit seems to rate XF, though.
I'm going to preemptively say AU-55 because I see what can be interpreted as luster after being distirted by a scan. I would nat have risked more than EF money, though.
Variety is LM-6, BTW - note the filled S in STATES characteristic of that one. Not an uncommon variety, but be looking for all sorts of interesting clashing and cracks when you receive it. The later die states of this one are fun.
Technical merit seems no worse than a good XF but in these images I cannot believe the surfaces are original.
I agree. Having seen the grades these are given, AU wouldn't surprise me but it has had a dip if not worse. They simply don't stay white like that with silver being such a reactive metal. (The exception I have see is the unusual piece that was lacquered by a very early collector.)
