Here is my newest edition. I think it is a O-118, could someone possible confirm my attribution. Once again all comments good/bad are welcome. I think this is a VF30 maybe XF40 coin. It is slightly darker than the pictures - probably an old cleaning. No matter what not bad for $65 in my opinion.

Great find , should add it to my thread , Best deal ever . I could of bought a nice overdate BH , but I didn't because it had a old slight cleaning , then Bonedigger told me most BH have had a little bath in there long lives , wish I would have bought it now , well live & learn .

Thanks - while I consider it a good deal I don't think it is my best. My smithsonian set - last time I looked was up to $1900 retail.

Nice CBH and nice deal. I would have snapped that up too.

Can you tell me, what does O-118 mean? I've seen that so many times and I've never known what is indicated by that.

    Thanks.

    Awesome snab, Mark! :thumb:

I don't see any clashes, which is odd for you since you seem to love those, but there are several spikes on the reverse legend but as to Overton, I haven't a clue. :goofer:

    Great share! :hammer:

    Ribbit :)

It is the overton or variety number for the coin. Bonedigger knows this stuff by heart, but I had to look it up. In 1828 there were 13 obverse dies and 17 reverse dies it produced 23 marriages or varieties for the year.

And I do like die clashes, but I prefer die cracks on my CBH's. It makes it easier for me to attribute them. :)

Does the 1828 O-118 list spikes on the reverse legend starting at the "F" in OF and on all letters in AMERICA? :kewl:

    Ribbit :)

Dang, how did I miss this thread? It looks EF-40 to me and O-118 looks allright. Very nice snag. :thumb:

    Thanks all for the confirmation.

I agree and I do lurk over there a lot. In this case the pictures were not much help to me. I eventually did it by process of elimination and was not confident of it. Thanks again all!
