I'm so sad when I see the reverse of this beauty... but I'd like to know if the extensive die cracks are uncommon. Also, what book do I need to find the Newcomb numbers to attribute these large cents?

Your coin is an 1827 N-9 which just happens to be an R-3+. The pick up points are of course the die crack on the obverse and the long right foot on the first A of AMERICA. The book I used for attribution is The CENT Book by John Wright. Really great book that makes attribution easy. John Wright states that it consistently brings a 1.3-1.6x premium.
