I couldn't help myself when I saw this coin and had to buy it. Switzerland (Vaud) 1827 Batzen, KM #20. Vaud was conquered by the Bernese in the 1500s. After several revolt attempts, it finally gained independence (meaning it became its own Canton) in 1798. This coin is overstruck. When it arrives, I'll try to determine what coin and year it once was. Feel free to pile on your Swiss coinage!
Cool coin. It took me awhile to look it up. lol Swiss Cantons/Vaud KM#20, Batzen = 10 Rappen. Metal-Billon interesting metal fact.
Thanks! Sorry, should've clarified its Swiss Cantons vs Switzerland... I really like the antique look to it, as well as the over strike. Funny thing, up until a year or two ago, I didn't know what billon was.
That is a sharp looking coin! (Pun intended) And thanks @physics-fan3.14 I hope it looks as nice in hand.
I've been trying to decide what this coin was struck over. I'm thinking this KM#8 was struck over KM#7, which ranged from 1804-1820. I made two overlays to show how they would look.
I do believe that you are correct. Never noticed that before. I also have an 1827. I need to find photos of it. Z
Sweet. I have two swiss coins, an older Zurich piece and a modern shooting medal. I bought this specifically because of the strike through that obliterated the N of canton and ZU of Zurich. I bought this for very cheap from bullion dealer. Low mintage and proof!
