i have an 1826 capped bust half(XF+) that is missing the 1 in 1826. is this rare/valuable.? any thoughts?
First off I want to say you have a beautiful coin here .. the number 1 for the date may have been filled in on the coin die. usually this don't add much to the value of the coin.
That could also be the case I can't really tell what's going on with the date from pics I'm not familiar with any vareitys of this date with the 1 filled
Is a good looking coin but it almost looks like a chisel mark where the 1 was it goes above where the number was it could also have been caused by a piece of metal or debris getting stuck either to the planchet or die
what does everyone think its grade is? is it original? i don't believe it to be shaved, it does look as if it was struck this way...is it worth sending to ngc?
