Just picked up this 1825 Classic Head Half Cent for my type set last night at the local coin club auction. Starting bid $40, I won for $51. I think I got a good deal, and its a nice upgrade.
Nice find! You did alright....1825 Classic Head Half Cent Early Copper Half Penny Coin Value Prices, Photos & Info (usacoinbook.com)
You have an upgrade, but the coin has been cleaned. I would have to refresh my knowledge of prices for Classic Head half cents, but it is unusual to see a common date from the 1830s in less than no problem VF. What I want to do is warn people that buying a coin like this is not mean you are getting a copper coin with original surfaces. The color should a medium to chocolate brown.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is old cleaning on this coin but the light in the previous photo makes the surface look different than in person. I noticed there is a slight difference in color around the details. Here is a photo from inside my Dansco:
Regardless of whether it was ever cleaned or not, I am pleased with the coin and think its a great addition. I think it was a deal at this price and in this condition.
I have 2 of these in pcgs slabs. Fr02 and f15. I'm making a fr02 set of half cents. I also have the 1811 in fr02. The 1825 f15 i bought because it was the low mintage and it was being offered cheap.
