1824/21 Bust Half - Grade opinions please

Well here's the newest addition to my Capped Bust Half collection. An 1824/21 -I think it's one of the nicest I've seen around lately . So what do you all think ? Did I do good ? J/K- I would like to hear some of your opinions on the grade of this. I will be able to post some more pictures a bit later. Comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks-

hmmm, who attributed this as a 4/1 variety? That reverse is NOT consistant with either 4/1 variety for 1824?! I will see if I can properly attribute it.

As for the grade I agree with XF/AU and a price of about $225 give or take.

ok, this coin is a 1824 O-113 which is an R2, but it is definately not a 1824/1 overdate. The diagnostic for it being an O-113 is the little worm-looking thing between the eagle's left wing and its neck.

It's a nice coin, but if part of the attraction was that it is an overdate I would return it, it clearly isn't.

OK I have it hand now- The seller was kind enough to understand she made a mistake & we worked out a lower price for this and I still purchased it.

Now that I have it hand I still think I got hosed a bit.It has some small hairlines on it, along with a large scratch on the OBV. It seems to have a nice bit of natural luster left , but the hair lines are cause for concern. I paid quite a bit lower for this than I should have even if it has some small cleaning issues. So no matter what I guess Im still happy-

So my question to you is - Does it looked cleaned to you or could it be just natual rub ,From being in a pocket ? And what do you think the NET grade would be ?

Also Thanks CaveTroll for your imput , I appreciate it.

I would still go with XF45/AU50 for a grade....and I don't think it was really badly cleaned....just dipped a few times....in some of the photos you can see alittle bit of luster so it wasn't over dipped...
I think this is going to be the normal for most Bust Halves you will find in this grades unless you are willing to spend $$$

    Nice half

It's to bad about that scratch, but that is a great looking coin that I think any one of us would be proud to own. I know I would be very proud of it.

I still think my price was reasonable for an XF/AU coin. It has obviously been dipped (there is disagreement on whether that is "cleaning" or not), but it looks like it was properly done and the luster remains unimpaired. The problem is that generally circulated coins shouldn't be dipped and this one has been.

Too bad about the scratch the coin is beautiful!

I liked the first photos. Silver on one side and gold on the other. How Cool is that. I agree with the XF. I don't know as I agree with the body bag. Nice speciman of a very old coin.
