Hello, here is another coin from my collection, an 1822 dime. It was a coin that i had to look for for a long time before finding one that suited my budget. I finally was able to find this one, and another example in lesser grade. I understand this is a scarce date in the series. But i would like to know approximately how many examples are now extant. I would appreciate your opinions and comments as to its grade also.
    Thanks you,
    Eduard

Wow great coin! My guesstimate would be about 20 percent of the number of coins that were made that year. Again , thats just a guess but it seems reasonable

100,000 were made, and I'd guess less than half that number still exist in any gradeable form today. Dimes were heavily used in the early 19th century. It's a frustrating set to take on, regardless of budget. Nice coin.

If there are 50k gradeable 1822 dimes, I will but one and eat it. :) The vast majority of these coins are damaged (cleaned, scratched, bent, etc.).

I'd guess in gradeable form there are fifty (50), at best. NGC has graded 32, and PCGS 34 in all grades and I suspect a significant number of these are re-submissions given the value of this coin.

Extant in all grades/conditions, my WAG would be less than a thousand.

As for the coin in quesiton, I would grade it F details, cleaned, net VG...Mike

Probably well less. I'd say two to three hundred in all grades and probably at the low end of that range.

I didn't mean gradeable as in slabbed, though I agree with your estimates. I simply meant there are probably less than half that are worthy of a grade upon sight above G. the rest are either gone or so far destroyed as to be unrecognizable due to their usage. Certification is a whole other matter unto itself.
