I'd say AU. Can't help with the attribution as I'm not where my books are at the moment.

Missing too much hair detail for AU.
    This is AU.

It's an N13, the lazy C for the C in cent :) There are many mint state examples of this variety, and they tend to come sharply struck. I don't have much experience in middle date grading but I would say sharpness is around 40-50.

Beef is correct, N-13 and I would say XF-45 sharpness probably EAC net XF-40.

Detecto, I think you're confusing light strike for wear.

IMO: TPG grade AU 58 or 55. EAC grade XF 45, net 40.

I thank you all, for your comments, and help with the attribution. So N-13 it is.

After posting, I found in the Goldberg archives an Auction Sale catalogue which focused solely on the middle dates. A very valuable resource I was not aware of for attribution of the middle dates.

    Thanks again,

    Eduard

That would probably be the Dan Holmes II sale.

XF45 details with an old cleaning. No idea on the attribution.

I believe he means this, The Dan Holes II sale lots 1 through 564 (There is also a Dan Holes I sale for the early dates. Between the two of them they picture every single Large Cent varity from 1793 through 1839 except the recently discovered 1825 N-5. Obv of N-4 rev of N-10)

Wonderful. How does someone learn about these things?

Yes, that is the one. I have spent a few hours over the last few days looking at the photos of coins in that superb collection.

I also look at the earlier Auction 1 for Early dates. Holmes assembled a truly remarkable collection.
