Hi All, I would greatly appreciate your attribution and grade help for this 1817 Large Cent. Thanks, Eduard
It's an N13, the lazy C for the C in cent There are many mint state examples of this variety, and they tend to come sharply struck. I don't have much experience in middle date grading but I would say sharpness is around 40-50.
Detecto, I think you're confusing light strike for wear. IMO: TPG grade AU 58 or 55. EAC grade XF 45, net 40.
I thank you all, for your comments, and help with the attribution. So N-13 it is. After posting, I found in the Goldberg archives an Auction Sale catalogue which focused solely on the middle dates. A very valuable resource I was not aware of for attribution of the middle dates. Thanks again, Eduard
I believe he means this, The Dan Holes II sale lots 1 through 564 (There is also a Dan Holes I sale for the early dates. Between the two of them they picture every single Large Cent varity from 1793 through 1839 except the recently discovered 1825 N-5. Obv of N-4 rev of N-10) http://images.goldbergauctions.com/php/toc_auc.php?site=1&lang=1&sale=59
Yes, that is the one. I have spent a few hours over the last few days looking at the photos of coins in that superb collection.
I also look at the earlier Auction 1 for Early dates. Holmes assembled a truly remarkable collection.
