Looking for some help with my diagnostic skills. I believe I have a large date. On the small date, the top of the "8" would not touch the red line. Am I close?

Looks like a small date to me. The 8 is the giveaway. The top and bottom of the 8 on the large date is very thin.

The 8 is too large to be the small date. Another confirming attribute is the lack of a period after “10 C”. Given the lack of the period and the placement of the date, your dime is 1814 JR-3 (large date), R2 (common). Nice example of an early date in this series!

I rescind my comment and agree with your call now that I’m seeing it on my computer.

Thanks for the responses! Years ago, I had labeled this "small date" but upon revisiting my dime collection, I changed my mind. Thank you for chiming in with your opinions. And thank you NSP for pointing out the obvious diagnostic on the reverse.

Finally, green18, do you have any idea what Polaroid film costs these days??

Large date. There are four varieties with the large date and only one with the small date. On the small date the I in PLURIBUS is below the right edge of the right foot of the A in STATES. On your coin it is below the right foot of the T so it has to be a large date. That reverse is paired with two different large date obverses. If you want to know which and what the JR number is just ask, but in the meantime I'll let you work on it if you wish.
