    I think it's about time to finally make myself an account. :eek:

    What better time than when I am completely baffled by a coin?

    I'm not sure exactly what I am looking at, and I've been looking at it for some time. Maybe somebody here can shed some light on this.

    I received a bonus coin with some rolls and this is what I got;

    From what I understand, this coin doesn't exist...but then again, it's in my possession. Could this possibly be a 1843 with the "4" made into a "1"?

    Thanks in advance to any help with my confusion.

    That is exactly what it is, a 43 altered to 13. Which is a little weird because normally what you see are 45's altered to 15 (to create an 1815 large cent, the only year the mint did not make cents).

    I agree. I have an 1815 Large Cent (1845 altered to 1815) that looks just like that.

    Thanks for the replies!

    That is what I figured.

    Not that the coin had too much value as an 1843 to begin with, but what would the value of this be now? It's considered PMD now, correct?
