I think it's about time to finally make myself an account. What better time than when I am completely baffled by a coin? I'm not sure exactly what I am looking at, and I've been looking at it for some time. Maybe somebody here can shed some light on this. I received a bonus coin with some rolls and this is what I got; From what I understand, this coin doesn't exist...but then again, it's in my possession. Could this possibly be a 1843 with the "4" made into a "1"? Thanks in advance to any help with my confusion.
That is exactly what it is, a 43 altered to 13. Which is a little weird because normally what you see are 45's altered to 15 (to create an 1815 large cent, the only year the mint did not make cents).
Thanks for the replies! That is what I figured. Not that the coin had too much value as an 1843 to begin with, but what would the value of this be now? It's considered PMD now, correct?
