Howdy fellow coin peeps, I recently acquired a nice "little" 1813 SUD for my Americas Copper Collection. As you can see by the last reference pic, it ain't little . It also weighs a hefty bit - 27.5 grams. Ribbit
SUD means 'south', the part of the country where the insurgent forces were based. This coin is an issue from those forces, during the period of the Mexican revolution. These coins were hastily made with poor equipment and metals, thus many came out crude looking like Toad's example. Nice coin, lots of history.
Here's one like mine, on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/MEXICO-WAR-IND-...1QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 I never realized how big they are and now it's the biggest copper in my collection. :thumb: Ribbit
A nice coin you have there Toad, with loads of history. Issued by the insurgentes rebelling in Oaxaca against spanish rule. As a side note, if i may: I thought you were a true, ingrained early american copper "peep" (collector?). Now you surprise us with spanish colonial related copper. What is going to be next, Roman Bronzes?
I guess you missed these: http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=41615 I collect U.S. Colonial coppers and coppers from areas around the U.S., if they are old and kewl. :thumb: I have coppers I haven't posted and some day, I'll post them. Ribbit Ps: I got a third one in, similar to the two in the thread above and I haven't posted it yet. I will some day. :goofer:
Yes, i did miss them. Me likes those! Cartagena in Colombia. Nice! Others that i have seen you can hardly read the date on.
