    Dear Troll et al,

I received this 1811 (rather smooth) Capped Bust Half in the mail today and have attributed it at O-102, but there is a significant die-crack in STATE on the reverse. Was wondering anyone could verify my shot at attribution. I picked it up for a song and if I'm correct in my guess it's an R-4.

    Thanks
    Bone

    Bone,

It looks like a 102 to me, nice find! Could you post a close up of the circled section in this photo?

That should be the diagnostic area for the 102, I just can't zoom in clearly on your photo's above to be certain. I based my agreement to your attribution on the obverse definately being obv A (punctuated date) and the reverse definately not being the 101 reverse, but I would still like to see the circled area more closely.

IMO, it grades better than it looks because of the good details in her face, hair, and ear and the eagle's breast. Much of the wear on that coin is a function of very worn dies and it might grade higher than one might expect. Again, it is a very nice find!

    Dear Troll,

Here are the close-ups you requested. If it weren't for the mouth I'd think it was an O-113.

    Take Care
