This large cent was a gift from my father in law to me several years ago, as payment for evaluating some coins that had been in his family for several generations. He couldn't bring himself to take them to a dealer, for whatever reason, so ask me. As it turned out, many were common date and in poor condition, except for several of the large cents, that I did not (and still do not) have enough knowledge to give an opinion. So I am requesting of you large cent enthusiasts, please tell me what might be important to know about this coin?
Looks uneven on the lower right side of the obverse also. I looked in the book "Photograde" and on the PCGS Photograde website and both of them grade at F-12 to F-15. But it's difficult to grade a coin from a photo. Probably worth in the mid-hundreds. Wait for replies from more experienced members.
F15 details, environmental damage, but decent surfaces. The planchets for this series were of awful quality, many of which were pitted BEFORE they even struck, so it is tough to find problem free examples. Yours could benefit from some verdicare, which will rehydrate those surfaces.
S-281 1810/09. I think the sharpness is better than F but the surfaces are moderately porous and detail is difficult to see in the obv image. I think the net EAC grade would be VG-7 or 8.
Thanks to all for the information. Yes, @C-B-D it has been treated with Verdicare, but the after treatment photo is not the best:
Verdi are helped it. It could possibly grade. Classic head large cents are awful condition as a rule nice coin
