Just won this on eBay and thought I'd post sellers photos for some feedback while I wait for it to arrive. I think it is O-108 but can't tell from the photos if it is the rarer 108-a die state. The listing indicated that it had some "planchet issues". I bid on it more out of curiosity than need. Looks like it either has shipwreck like corrosion, weird toning or the mysterious aforementioned planchette issues. Anyhow, would love to know people's opinions of the coin as it is pictured here as well as once I can post more accurate representations once it arrives.
    Thanks!

Looks like a metal detecting find with several scratches of varying severity, cleaned, and then artificially toned. Sorry for being critical, but that’s how I explain what I see

Interesting. I question the toning and it has surface issues but the earlier date capped bust halves are tough to find in higher grade

I don't see any sign of the secondary reverse die crack through OF AMERICA that would constitute the "a" designation. AU details, but the surface problems to me would drop this example into the VF price range.

1810 108s (both die states) are tough coins in AU and above. Even with the problems from the pics this coin is a winner at the price you paid.

I felt like it was a safe purchase at $95 shipped. Thanks for the input.

Nice coin, certainly for the price. The toning may well be QT, but if you don’t intend to slab it, it is a keeper. Looks nice under all that toning.

The coin arrived today and here are some new photos. It is now sitting in an acetone bath so we shall see how it turns out. I'm happy with it in hand. The toning is more even than it appeared to be in the sellers photos.
