i have never seen a bust half display a drastic off center strike such as this 1809. this piece is currently on the bay and the sellers pics are less than desired. http://cgi.ebay.com/1809-half-bust-error_W0QQitemZ190172232228QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190172232228 the only other off center early bust i have seen is this 1814 10c from the Logan Sale. below is link to sale plate and description. http://loganberrybooks.com/russ/collection/2015.html Struck 15% Off-Center at 8:00. Sharpness of EF-40 with minor surface roughness and heavy reverse scrapes. Purchased July 1992 from William Subjack. Earlier from Bowers and Ruddy, 1982. i don't own or involved in the sale. just thought they were cool, seldom seen and thought i would share.
The seller wants a very healthy premium for this coin. Given its unusual nature, is it worth that big of a premium? (I know, the auction will tell) Mike
most offcenter cbh10c, cb10c, and cb25c bring 1100-2600 raw...someone who is drunk off the kool-aid may pay more for the plastic...we'll see if my snipe holds up or if i can get the seller to close the auction and sell privately.
