    Haven't a clue what this ring on reverse is from. Maybe someone has seen something similar . I'm all ears :) DSC07759.jpg DSC07769.jpg DSC07773.jpg

    Yes there is a scratch that goes from the left wing to a little past the head. There appears to be a circular shadow the shape of a dime that covers that area.

    There also appears too be some markings across the eagles chest, could they be part of the dimes design?

    Interesting. I can see the circular ring, but no clue what caused it. It does look like something smashed against it.

    That is totally not a scratch! It looks like a planchet defect to me.

    The scratch has been identified already, it's the dark dime shape circle in the middle I'm curious about.

    StGauden658;

    That is what I'm talking about is the circular indentation around the center of the coin. I have no idea as to what they are talking about a scratch. I don't even see a scratch on the your coin.

    Yes there is a scratch that goes from the left wing to a little past the head and that is where it stops.

    I wonder if it could have glued to something and then removed. Kind of like a big tie clip or piece of jewelry. That might explain how the obverse looks so cleaned, versus the reverse. And the circle is easier to see with the smaller pictures.

    The circular mark has to be post mint damage.

    Look at how it is into the stars (esp the left side) if it were pre-mint damage the stars would not look like that

    It can be called a scratch or a dent or just a circular mark. It's all the same.
    It's post mint damage that could have been caused by many things.

    Right you are Idhair....... Neither planchet flaws or draw bench rollers would leave such marks.

    The circular mark looks too small to have been made by a dime.
    Maybe a half dime was smashed into it. Maybe a chair or table leg.
    We will never know.

    My first reaction was PMD.

    However, being the cynic I am... Does the coin pass a ring test?
