Today, a famous dealer (he's the only major dealer who comes to Trivandrum, India) here told me that he got a silver dollar 1804 from a collection. He's so.. so excited. I checked the catalogue and am astonished to see that only 15 known specimen are there. So, what do you think about this? Any remote chance for this coin to be genuine?
It could be real but if he got it from someone in India I would say its more than likely a fake--you can buy a 1804 Silver Dollar on Ebay that is fake and most of them come from over seas..... Speedy
He took the weight of the coin .. Its 26.8 gms. But, something tells me that it is definitely a fake. I think he's telling a lie. I asked him the source and he told that he got it with some 9 other coins (different years - 19th C) from an American. Why should an American sell these valuable coins to an Indian who is not at all willing to give a decent price.
He has a chance in a million that it is real---and I would bet that he knows its fake--and if he doesn't he needs to do some learning . Try to get some photos of it... Speedy

wow!! Thats a wonderful coin.. I have not much experience with the US coins. But I must say that the US coins now have lost their charm. I'm sorry... I didnt want to offend anybody. But its true. Isn't it?
