I strongly suspect fake. The 4 appears to be too close to the 0 and the LIBERTY appears to be too close to the head.

And after staring at it, my eyes hurt.

I wonder how he got all the dirt off? We have several members who can lend their expertise to this question.

Looked at the feedback as a seller category. The most recent was from May of '08 for an 1804 large cent that went for $1500+

Very blurry pics. Doesn't give me a good feeling. But, judging by the bids, people are willing to take a shot. NOT me. JMO

Story is not believable. He found it buried in the ground, yet the coin looks like it's been whizzed. He has 4 pictures posted, but not one of them is in focus?

    Run....

I agree with most everybody else, the story is not credible. I also don't like it when people act like the can't take half way decent pictures of a valuable object, whether it be coins or anything else. If he truly believed this was a real coin and because of that COULD be worth a decent amount of money, he would find a way to photograph so that it shows detail.
I do realize that ebay is full of coins with poor pictures of generally lesser valued coins. However, when you're talking a high end piece where authenticity is in question, I hate to see auctions get bid up like this coin has ($350+ at last check). It just encourages shady practices.
If ebay lets this coin sell, my guess is that the buyer is gambling and just counting on the return policy to bail them out. My hope is that ebay just shuts the auction down and requires better pictures that prove this coin is real.

With those pictures anybody that buys it is a fool. But there are a lot of fools around.

Raw coins above $75.00 on ebay unless graded and numbers check out.
Is only way I bid on ! I won't bid on.
Fakes and ebay Rule#1 is knowledge of coins .
