Went today to pick up a small bag of foreign coins I bought off an auction and found this. On the auction listing it appeared to just be a copper slug, but I can see the resemblance of a familiar coin. Although in horrible shape I think it will fit nicely in my type set for now. Sorry for the bad pics, but I have a hard enough time taking decent pictures of good detailed coins.

Nice pickup. A nice worn large cent. Some better clearer pictures and conder or marshall can probably attribure it for you.

Just from these poor images my first thought is S-200 through 202. Most likely 201 or 202

It still amazes me how some of you can attribute the early copper to variety when I struggle sometimes just the read dates !!!

Great info! Not sure what s-200 refers to, but looks like I have some research to do. I will try to get better pics, but not sure I have the skills to do it. Thanks guys!

My first thought was a late state S-203 because of a possible break at the bottom left of the last 0 which is similar. But that 0 is too low on the OPs coin. Obverse 9 looks right. A nice reverse shot would be nice as NC-3 shares the obverse with S-200, 201 and 202.

I considered 203 but you can see the word O clearly on the reverse and I don't see any trace of the severe clash damage that is always present on 203.

You large cent experts never cease to amaze me. Just from those images of a beaten and worn coin, you get that much info to attribute the die pairs used on these coins.
Marshall, Conder, I applaud you two!:hail:
