Hi Everyone, I resently came across a 1800 Silver Dollar I beleave its fake except the last 0 in the 1800... I read someware the that 0 in the die was one of the signature stamps for this coin? I know the coins been cleaned it came to me this way but I thought I would ask the experts on this one. Many Thanks Chris
It looks fake to me but they did a good job with the image of liberty. She is actually pretty. With most fakes, she is ugly.
I would file this under the “If it looks to good to be true” file...... I’m not an expert at detecting fakes.... However I can usually sniff them out reasonably well. This piece is disturbingly accurate.
It's a very poor quality fake. Nothing about it looks like a product of the US Mint in 1800. I'm surprised that people in this forum aren't more direct. The portrait and the borders are all wrong, and it even looks like it has a reeded edge.
I'm curious if the OP has a basic Red Book or access to PCGS CoinFacts, etc? Like previously stated, this isn't even close to a US mint made product and images from good sources show that!
I agree, I am new to the whole coin hunting thing... But even as a newbee I thought it was a fake if nothing else out of this post people who are not savey well at least be aware of the phony BS people are trying sell these day... Many Thanks Chris (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1800-bust-dollar-silver-or-chinas-best.314067/#post-3042236)
There is an 1800 silver dollar for sale up the street from me at the local coin shop graded by NGC, I think it's an xf40 grade. That thing's probably Bookoo money. Next time I'll go in there I'll ask to see it I'm curious as to what they're selling it for
