A recent pick-up. I have gone through all of the varieties in my Large Cent book (Breen's), and have narrowed it down to S-124. Maybe one of the experts here can confirm? Everything seems to match: the positioning of the leaves in the wreath, the date, and the obverse and reverse legendl. What I see no trace of is of the E corrected from an M (in AMERICA) as Breen describes, but this could be due to the die state or wear. I should be mighty pleased if this turns out to be S-124, which CQR describes as High Rarity 5. The coin itself is of course quite worn, but has decent brown surfaces and a nice color, with only minimal granularity (mainly on the reverse). Thanks in advance for any comments.
Well I haven't done an "in depth" study of the coin but what I see so far looks good. It sure looks like S-124.
Thank you very much for your input, Conder101. Much appreciated. I am certainly please with this find. I only have one other R5+ in my copper collection. Heritage says 30-35 in existence. Condition-wise it is not the greatest, but as Breen notes 'Usually in low grades and with corrosion'. This one has a very nice obverse with minor granularity on the reverse only. Regards, Eduard
Thank you, Leadfoot and Conder for verifying this. Definitely one of my better 'cherry picks'. Eduard
