I picked this guy up this past weekend. It's a shame about the issues but this is still a super scarce early American coin and like the bust dollars the vast majority of these have issues. Still I love the large eagle design on earely gold.

On the Reverse, what is the Motiff between Stars above the Eagle, and upper lettering?

Like a chain of orbs or something?

I had the whim to ask. Beautiful coin. Thanks for the eye candy.

    They are "clouds".

Not to Derail anything here - But What do Clouds Generally mean on coins? I haven't heard this discussed on the Coin Show (fan)

I believe so too. I do not have one of these, but its the same reverse as I have on halves and silver dollars.

On the great seal of the United States (which this reverse is supposed to symbolize) there are 13 clouds to represent... the 13 original colonies... obvoiusly not 13 clouds here... but you get the idea.

Just where the hair meets the field behind her head.

Turbans are one of the few examples of early US coinage that I really like, the design just appeals to me.

The slab tell us the coin was tooled, but who can tell where the tooling was done ? And does the coin have any other issues ?

edit - hmmmm, kinda late posting. But I think there is/are other area/areas as well.

A dream coin of mine. Absolutely love the turban head gold coins. Pre 1800 adds a huge coolness factor.

No, I definitely agree... but this is the area that you pick up first and is the worst of it.

I don't think I have ever seen one of these in person, What would this coin in that condition be valued at?

This coin is worth somewhere in the very high 4 figures or low 5 figures range.

Great pick up, a big investment, but man that coin is serious. Yes that reverse eagle design is very PHAT. (for lack of a better term)

What's going on with the denticles at the left edge of the bottom support on the reverse (between 6:00 and 7:00)? It almost looks like the edge was pushed in there -- is that more tooling?
