Hey all its been a while since I've been on CoinTalk but I figured this was something yall might have some knowledge on - I've been purchasing some nice coin collections from this guy who has a bunch of family members that collect coins (nice stuff, gold, silver, foreign etc.) and he showed me this piece, I wasn't familiar with it and not sure if its real but it looks pretty rare if so, his family member purchased it from a guy who supposedly dug it up out of the ground on the east coast, which seems odd since the only examples I see with PCGS/NGC registry and research online appear to be MS examples. Any insight appreciated and wondering if I should soak in acetone since its so difficult to read and has some pretty bad environmental damage. XRF tests as copper composition, weighs 11.03 g, diameter 29.6mm
Welcome back stranger! Good to have you here again. I would be careful because it is copper and worn already. Acetone shouldn't hurt it though. Distilled water after. Take better pics after? BTW: It wasn't me that dug it up. Maybe @paddyman98 found it? Also. Still have those Canadien Large cents you gave me.....
Good to see you again! I recognize all the names of these active members haha, been a long time since I've been on this website, been busy with college and buying/selling precious metals/coins!
Geez, Sal, I wouldn't mind meeting a few pesky girls. My wife wouldn't like it though. I mean, I don't know what the problem is. Bruce
Welcome back. Wow, that's a rough one. Like you, I have only seen pictures of high-grade Proof or Prooflike examples. Never seen one in person. I suppose one or two must have fallen into the dirt back in the day, only to be later found by modern metal detectorists. Seems plausible enough to me. If it's real. I personally see no reason to doubt that, though I wonder what sort of different varieties there might have been of this issue. I knew about the general type, but have no specialized knowledge about them.
