The central lines do appear to be adjustment lines. It looks to have been cleaned tho.

I think a combination the deepest. Guoge seems pmd the rest appear to be more adjustment marks. As said before definitely cleaned

They don't really look like adjustment marks to me, but the cleaning bothers me more anyway.

    I think it's a nice coin.
Not sure if they are adjustment marks or damage.

Those aren't adjustment marks from what I can see in the pics. Typically you'll see them reach father than that and go uninterrupted from the fields into the devices. Just my opinion.

I concur. There appear to be fine hairlines that are visible in the fields. The deeper marks within the hair are the signs of adjustment marks.

The photo below was taken from Heritage Auction archives and is a cleaned details half with adjustment marks on the head only and not in the fields. This is my opinion only though through observation. Good luck!

A lot of the adjustment marks are only on the higher parts of the design the pressure elsewhere moved the metal enough to flatten them out my 1795 dollar has them on the head as well

Correction: HA coin is PCGS non-details lot 3148 7/11/2013. However, CBD is right on in that you usually see marks in the fields and/or on the rim.

image.jpg Ive seen a lot either on the high pints of the bust or eagle. Tho they often cross to the rims but not always here's my dollar I don't mind some adjust ment marks but don't like it when they really obscure the design. A silver plug better tho :)

They seem too wide , rounded and short for adjustment marks .

I think they are probably adjustment marks. Let's remember that the files used at the time were crude devices that were made by hand.

To bad about the harsh cleaning on the OP coin. The marks would probably be acceptable if not for the cleaning.

I do not believe that those are "adjustment" marks.

50/50 response, so I guess it's a coin toss. I personally think they're adjustment marks mainly because I can't figure out how the coin could be damaged only on the obverse and only on the device without somebody taking great care in creating the damage. Yes, it's cleaned but it's a 1795 half dollar so I love it anyway. NGC agrees with half of you.

Could we see a pic of the reverse ? I 'd like it too as I'm still looking for my 1795 Half as I know I'll never own a '94 unless I win the lotto .

You got it. Tried to get more accurate color tone on the obverse but it's not easy just shooting in my bedroom with my phone.

Wouldn't the label say cleaned as opposed to damaged if NGC thought it was adjustment marks?
