No particular comment. I am just so excited that I could bust and had to share this once in a lifetime piece. And many thanks to @C-B-D for letting me give this majestic lady a good home for an incredibly more than fair deal. I am all about the history I hold in my hands with my coins. Been that way since I was a kid. The lightly scratched "X" on the reverse doesn't bother me in the least.... I think I may have just gotten over my seated series craze.... Thanks for indulging me.
That is a very nice example for a "genuine" or "details" graded coin. Usually defects are much worse. If the person who marked that piece had not made it an "X," the coin might have gotten a straight grade. Congratulations on acquiring a very historic coin!
When I bought her raw, I had a little back and forth with the owner, but he didn’t budge a dime on her. Finally I waved the white flag of surrender and declared, “well, I’ve never owned one before, and how many opportunities am I going to get? I’ll take it!”
Beautiful coin Randy, congrats! Incredible to hold a coin in your hand that circulated when George Washington was President.
I'm too new to know the historic, nor monetary value of these coins I've never seen before, lol, but if it brings you joy @Randy Abercrombie , that's good enough for me. You're a good dude, you deserve much happiness. Keep it in good health, my friend. Breathtaking coin, as well.
that is a sweet coin! i have a 1799 dollar and just love thinking of the history that happened in that era.
My sentiments exactly. I'd love the opportunity to get a bust dollar, even if was a "details" coin. @C-B-D you, sir, are obviously a great guy! And @Randy Abercrombie , congratulations!
That's a really nice example of an historic coin, and personally, adjustment marks would bother me a lot more than the x does.
The 1795 is a decent coin. I have seen far worse in straight graded holders. If the price was right I'd buy it. I attaching a picture of a 1795 bust dollar I bought that was holed and repaired. Very hard to see where it was repaired. I'm attaching a picture of the obverse. I bought this coin for one third the cost of one that was straight graded with nasty adjustment marks. It's hard to see the repair area in the T in liberty. You can't tell on the reverse. Which you would you like a coin that look like someone took a file to it or mine? I've posted this coin in the past.
Here is one that has "had the file taken to it." The trouble is the file was taken to it at the mint before it was struck and is part of the minting process. The hole was put there after it left the mint, and that makes all the difference.
