Checkout what the mailman delivered today. This is another one I've waited (almost) quietly for the past week. I gave a subtle hint the other eveing when I mentioned the seller Silver dollar sized and weighs around 23gr. Bone
I'm kind of hoping that the colour of the scan is off or that i'm seeing things that aren't there in the flesh as it were. For example...what's that brass looking mark on his shoulder? There seems to be other brass looking tinges on the coin both sides. I'm kind of hoping that your example doesn't turn out to be like mine....one of my first experiences of being sold a fake. As I said, maybe it's just the image, or some stuff on the surface. Ian
Water and a q-tip removed the shoulder mark, there appears to be another one in the wig as well. I could just dip it, LOL. Under natural light they're not even visable, and my digital camera skills vary wildly so I'm not real worried. It's situated on plain white bond paper so you can see the colors are off significantly compared to in hand? Bone
That's good to know. I did a bit of colour correction on the basis of knowing that the background was white, and my concerns vanished just like the marks. So I can say it now....Nice coin to have in your collection! I'll have to dig out the one I bought as `genuine' a good few years ago. It had a couple of similar light marks. Of course over the years those light marks got bigger eventually exposing that the coin was in fact silver washed base metal. A damn clever counterfeit that caught me out and unawares. Of course I never thought back then to weight it. I didn't have suitable scales back then in any event. Ian
I too got burned with a 1760 8 Reale from Mexico City several months back. I posted a picture of it in the gallery. There were several things (weight off, casting bubbles, crazy scalloping along the edges) wrong with it when it arrived. I received a refund gave it (the coin) to the postal inspectors and haven't heard a thing from them since. Bone
