    hello,
Here is a 1794 cent. I was very lucky to find this piece at an auction in Antwerp-Belgium many years ago. It was not cheap..... but it really appealed to me because it was in quite good condition. It has a number of rim bumps around both obverse and reverse unfortunately. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and hard, with no evidence granularilty or porosity.
I wouild be thankful for your opinions on grad and variety.
    Thanks,
    Eduard

Haven't taken the time to confirm it, but a quick 30 - 40 second look and I'm coming up with S-54.

At long last, my chance to correct Conder has arrived!!! :D

    That's an S-71.

The reverse of that coin is clearly from reverse die JJ -- easily identifiable by the triple leaf just to the right of D in UNITED, and the double leaf just below the O in OF.

Since this reverse was only used with S-70 and S-71, the obverse must be examined to be sure...

Clearly it is not S-70, where the T in LIBERTY is completely right of the lock of hair on the forehead. So therefore it must be an S-71. However, I am unable to be 100% positive, because all of the attribution points are not visible in the given photo.

Here's a closeup of the S-71 which can be used to compare:

Here's a link to the auction for even larger pics of both sides:

As far as grade, I would grade the coin XF detail, scratched & rim damage, net F. Although I have no reason to suspect it is anything but what it seems, I would be concerned with its authenticity until examined in-hand by an expert.

Another great coin & thanks for sharing..Mike

Mike, Well, now i am the one who is drooling when i see the comparison picture you posted.....! that is a very nice coin!
These old cents just have a certain charm to them. That is why i so eagerly chased them when i was forming my U.S collection.
Thank you for the attribution as S-71.
    Regards,
    Eduard

Thanks for the correction Leadfoot (Or course I did say it was only a 30 to 40 second attribution. :) ) I wondered why I mised it though so I went back and look at my notes again. I found the problem. I hadn't finished transcribing the notes and hadn't gotten to the portion that covered the S-71. So I think you for that as well. Now I know i have to go back and finish the transcription.
