I want to share this coin with you all, I have been telling my wife and my friends at work that I want to get a chain cent for years. So for bosses day this one was on my desk with a card. My most favorite coin that pulls a full P-0.5 on the old Sheldon scale.
At least you can call it "FULL LIBERTY"!! Not much left in the detail department, but I must say, the surfaces look terrific for a coin from that era. Hey, a chain cent is a chain cent! Nice!!:high5:
All I can say is WOW, I don't care what the grade is. Finding a sliver of American history sitting on your desk like that must have sent chills down your spine.
I will join the others in congratulating you. Admittedly in lower grade, but nice smoooth surfaces which is not obvious with Chain cents. I was trying to attribute it from your picture. Not too easy, but i am tending toward Sheldon Variety 1 or 2 (S-2), from the position of the "E" and "R" in Liberty. As i said, not sure. Either way, a nice early cent. Acquiring one of these is always an occasion to celebrate. With regards, Eduard
That is the #1 coin on my list! hya: I think with the new Sheldon Scale, it would grade a F-2 to G-3 and I'd be tickled to death to have it. I will hopefully have one by the end of the upcoming year but if not, within the next 2 years. I just gotta have one! Thanks for sharing it with us! :thumb: Ribbit
Love the coin 1913V5! EDITED-No offers to buy/sell/trade please Personally i would send it in and have it certified. The surfaces look fantastic and i would never want anyone breathing on it. I know the big copper guys are against it for the most part, but us new guys will change that thinking someday in my opinion. You can't loose putting it in a PCGS holder. ..HA HA.
Definitely S-1 or S-2, can't tell for sure which with the low grade and the angled photo. Not enough of the reverse can be made out.
Someone just had to drag this back up to torment me with it! :goof: I so want a Chain Cent! :thumb: It's driving me nutzoid trying to find a decent affordable one. :goofer: Ribbit
Nice looking chain cent! This is one I would buy, low grade but still nice smooth identifyable surfaces. Congrats!
Well H.T, you know i wish you all the best in your quest, but i am afraid that the words "decent" and "affordable" are two words which cannot be used in same sentence when talking about chain cents.......
