They made three different types of cents in 1793, all very expensive. Any stories you know about 1793 cents? Does anybody own one and have a picture of it (them) that they can post?

No...I think they were all 1¢.

There are three major types: Chains (5 Varieties); Wreaths (11 Varieties - 1 with three sub varieties); and Liberty Caps (6 Varieties)

These are good sites for photos of 1793s:

It was the only 1793 that I have ever owned. I don't have it anymore because I traded it for a 1868 proof set, but it was a nice VF-30 chain.

I would have a tough time parting with a coin like that!

You're not kidding, ten years later and I am still debating the decision. Not that it was a bad trade, really the value is very similar, but I've been unable to find another problem free example in that grade range for a while now without an over the top price tag.

The 1793 Liberty Cap is hard to come by...and it'll cost you.

The two 1793 Flowing Hairs were considered "modern junk" at the time of their release. The public thought the obverse designs looked terrible and finally settled on the Liberty Cap design.

I'm very lucky to have two of the three.

It's hard finding a 1793 cent on ebay with a legible date.

As a large cent collector, I would have guarded that 1793 with my life.

I can't figure out why they stopped using the liberty cap design. It was better than any of the large cents that followed, I believe.

That's the issue, I wouldn't look at eBay to find a nice example. I would have more luck on Heritage or a Stacks/Bowers auction.

I'm not familiar with those. How do they work?

I like it anytime you can read the date on a 1793 cent.

I like coins and all, and Kirkuleez that VF 30 chain is a stunning example, bit I have to say, if it were mine, I wouldn't be able to get that coin fast enough to HA. I mean Mikey needs a new Porsche....

How can you say such a thing about a VF30 1793 cent?

My Red Book says that 1793 VF30 cent is worth about $45,000. Whew!

Very nice 1793's posted so far. Beautiful coins all. Congratulations to the owners.

I have four 1793 cents in my collection, including a chain S-3, but nothing of the quality of those posted here, thus I will spare you.

I saw the most amazing display of 1793 Cents at a dealers table at the recent Summer FUN show in Orlando.
C.V.M had about 7 or 8 chain cents laid out on a velvet tray. I stared at those for a while.
