Picked this NJ Colonial up. Can't seem to find an obverse die match. There is one similar for 1786, but not that I can find for a '87. Any ideas? Thank you! IMG_3417.JPG IMG_3418.JPG

Maris 29 has the plow handles ending around the top of the N, in NOVA, this one they end at about the base.

The only 1787 with knob type handles with the handles ending near the top of the N is Maris 30 and your coin is nothing like Maris 30. I am also coming up with Maris 29-L

Holding History, you aren't by chance using the Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial and Early American coins are you? The Maris 29 photo in the book is the wrong one, it is actually a 30 obverse.

Yes, that is what I was using. Thanks for the clarification! That would explain why I was confused ;-).

It's a good book but there are quite a few unfortunate errors. I don't know if they have printed or plan to print an updated corrected version.

Most of the historical information is accurate and informative, but the identification leaves something to be desired. Better to rely on the Encyclopedia or on a type-specific book.

Do you know if there is an errata listing of the errors in the book?

My copy came with an insert inside the back cover with corrections.

Good, I've been wanting to pick up a copy, when I do if it doesn't have the sheet included can I get a copy from you? Or maybe I should just ask for a copy so I'll have it just in case.

If you get a newer one it should have the sheet, but if not I could certainly copy it for you.
