    Hi
I know that clips are not that uncommon in Pre Federal copper half cent coins, but I was wondering if anyone knows enough about the subject to speak to rarity (or not) of one with 2 clips? 1785CT2ClipsObv.jpeg

The one at 3:00 looks good, but
I don't think the one at 6:00 is.

(I see the metal flow from the rim
toward the void, mostly on the rev. side)

Hard to tell from photos, and even
    tough to authenticate in-hand sometimes,
due to surface texture on some of these.

I can fit a second CT half penny perfectly into the one at 6 oclock.

I can post a pic of that if you would like.

Also, I asked you a question on the previous thread we were chatting on, did you see it?

Placing one of the same against the clip
area does not authenticate the clip.

You need the three authentication points,
or at least 1 definitive one, on a coin like that.

I don't believe another photo of the smaller
6:00 clip would be helpful, but you can try,
    and we'll take another look.

On your last sentence above, I don't know what thread you are asking about

I will just ask my question here. Do you think this coin is
    1) Not a mint error
    2) Restruck or struck twice
    3) a flip over double strike.

    It's a flip-over double strike

Thanks, that is what I thought. I submitted it to NGC saying it was but they said it was not. To me, the guy must have been on drugs not to see it. I agree with them that someone, not me, seems to have steel wooled it or something, but that does not mean the error is not there.... 1720ObvSlab.JPG

One other thing while I have your attention, this is one of the coolest errors I have.

I think it is actually triple struck and can defend that positon, but did not want to contiue to argue with NGC about it. I had to send it back once already, they TOTALLY MISSED the obverse brockage the first time. I siad it when I submitted it. They sent it to me the first time with no mention. When I objected to both coins, they said they would only reconider this one... Wondering what you think, double or triple struck?

Sorry, didn't mean to say 'dark' photos,
I mean those photos of it in the NGC holder.

Thanks.... I will try to get better ones... you know I need a better camera!

If I can, I will start a new thread.

Don’t start a new thread. You already have one here. Why make it more complicated? Also, lighting is the #1 issue for photos. Fix your lighting and the photos will generally turn out much better.

Ok, I will try, but the reason I would start a new thread is it is a different topic... I just kind of got sidetracked on this one...

My mistake; I thought you meant for the original coin, which needs better lighting.
