    this was giving to me

what i find odd about it is every one i looked up says copy on one of the reverse circles not randomly punched in the coin.

maybe this was passed as real at one point and then some one found out it was fake and stamped it them selfs ?

pretty cool its actualy made out of pewter

It may have been made before the Hobby
    Protection Act.

1974 I think. Maybe someone punched
    it in later.

Or maybe it used by a club as an educational
piece and they wanted it to stand out. I'm
    just guessing.

It's looks a bit grainular and pocked, maybe
from mould bubbles that popped. But I'm
looking at it from a cell so maybe I'm seeing
a distorted view. If it's cast you should see some
casting port on the edge if it is a cast.

it seems to be ether a very old copy or made to look very old and circulated.

it doesnt look to me to be pressed the way normal coins are

one of the rims seems to be smushed on top

the word copy has defiently been punched after the coin was made and wasent part of the design

The smushed rim sounds like the casting
port. It looks cast to me from your close up
    images.

does it being cast add value and age or are copys just valueless

it does appear to be made of pewter it says pewter on the 2x2 has the color of pewter and feels heavy compared to a morgan ect

It may also be pot metal if it's a cast and just looks
like pewter. I don't know what value it might have. Based on
the images it looks like an inexpensive cast to me. They
probably made copies of that coin by the jillions for the
Bicentennial. Maybe if Condor or GDJMSP come in here they
can tell you more about it. Why not just hang on to it as
    a study piece?

There were millions of these made. Worth a few dollars to some.

    Note to all:

Try taking the piece out of the 2X2 for clearer pictures.

The holders are not that expensive and easily replaced.

But clear pix are worth the effort.

Is this even a copy of a real coin

It could be a copy of another repro that was
    struck with a collar.

I check my redbook when I get home. It's probably
in the front. It won't be listed with the federal stuff.
