The coin I have, can be seen in the Red Book, on page, 30, 1990. It is more than possibly a copy/replica. I was wondering, even as copy/replica, what it would be worth or just keep it as a glimpse to the past. I have showed it to a few collectors at a show in Kokomo, and they were interested in it, even if it was not real. Just to have as a conversation piece. My coin has the inscription, Colonial Curency, only one "R". I may have to go to Indianapolis, to have a few dealers there let me know for sure, if they can, if it is real or a copy/replica.
I don't think I've previously welcomed you to the forum serpent, so consider it done now. If it's a copy, unless it can be attributed as a contemporary counterfeit, it probably isn't worth much. Can you identify it more precisely by denomination, size, metal, inscription, design, etc.? It's not on the same page in my 2003 Red Book. Or better yet, post a picture.
Roy, look in the index under "Continental Currency". It's right before Nova Constellatio Coppers. Unfortunately, we still need pictures
It's alittle larger than a silver dollar, feels heavy enough to be pewter (I hope). I haven't measured or weight it, no scales. Not sure how to post picture thru my scanner .Thank you for the Welcome, all of you. Found a dealer in Tipton, who might be able to help me verify it..Will try to get there this weekend.
For starters; the dealer and another gentleman looked at the coin and said it looked like it might be Elektro, any idea about what they were suggesting? Here is specs' about the coin: Diameter 37.7 - 40.7 millimeters (varies), Weight: 15.03 - 18.51 grams (varies), Composition: Pewter (.950+ tin and lead, .050 trace elements), edge: Twin leaf ornamentation. My coin: diameter is 37.7, weight 20.grams, compostion, not sure, hope pewter, no twin leaf ornamentation noticeable. Suggested I send it in anyway to have if verified and slabbed. They suggested, ANACS, What would be your suggestion and where do I get information on how to send it in and price? Any suggestions on how to scan coin and put it here for all to see. Not that computer literate, .
Any info you need to submit a coin to ANACS can be found HERE An "electro" is a copy. Given the weight of your coin, I would say they are probably correct. As for scanning the coin so you can post pics - first of all do you have a scanner - or a digital camera ? If you do - it might be best if you were to ask a family member or friend who is experienced with them to help you out. If you can do that - then feel free to email the pics to me and I'll post them for you gdjmsp@qwest.net
That's a fake! Doug, that is a fake! Look at how soapy the surface of the piece looks. The details of the inscriptions are very fuzzy, which is a dead giveaway. Aidan.
1776 All the pics I found ,(google) the bottoms of 7's in 1776 go all the way to the rim of the coin. counterfeit or copy would not matter much to me ,it is still a interesting coin. It might be really cool if it were a contemperary copy.
curency I found something interesting when I searched google images. I typed in curency--one r and found the slabed coins. then I typed in two r's and got more pic of coins with rr, but none were slabbed. they must have made copies with both spellings. Just kind of interesting to me.
A real US Continental Dollar was sold at for 39,100 Pounds Sterling by Morton & Eden Ltd. of London at their auction of the 13th & 14th of December 2005. Aidan.
