This is a bicentennial quarter with some things going on in the word america on the reverse.
The a and the m I do not believe should be connected.The E has some extra metal? Just a pocket find. any ideas? Thanks

It is a die chip. They are pretty common, but they are fun to find.

What about the a and the m being connected thats not right? I'v done some looking and dont see this problem on others?

 

The “AM” look fine to me, they should be touching.
