Good Morning, I'm wondering if it's best to leave the coins in the cellophane or should I remove them? The cellophane is punctured so I don't think it's protecting them very well. Also what is the dark spot on Kennedy's neck? Is there a way to remove it without damaging the coin? The Dollar and Half Dollar are Mint State 65 or 66 (Unless the spot makes the half dollar a details grade coin). The Quarter is absolutely beautiful! It has to be at least MS-66.
Double check the edges…. I’m remembering the silver coins being in a different package. I also think I’m seeing some copper on the edges of the half and quarter…. if I can get my two year old down for her nap I’ll double check mine about the package. no matter what they’re gorgeous coins, just a shame about the spot on the half.
Sometimes it’s great to be wrong!!! I was thinking of the silver proof set for the bicentennials. Everything else I said stands though, still gorgeous coins.
All three coins are showing a bit of environmental damage. At this point they still have very good luster and eye appeal. Yes, I would take them out of the cello. Good luck.
Since these sets are cheap, I would sell it and look for one that has better packaging. These coins coins trade in the mint holder. When they are out of the holder, they either have to slabbed with some crazy high grade, or they are not worth very much.
I’d leave in the original government packaging as it adds value. That spot on Kennedy’s neck is the start of a form of corrosion. Best to sell that set and find a better one.
Back in October of 1981 the U.S. mint sent an offer of price reduction of their Bi Cent. proof sets. Had to buy 25 to get the deal. Sent a money order and received them six months later. Had to wait for the USPS MO to clear. Tryd selling them at shows for $3 profit, still cheaper than current market. No takers. Even took one to the coin club for a giveaway. No takers. For 40+ years they are relaxing at my mom's house in one of the closets. End of Hijacking.
I love these unc sets and buy them and the proof sets whenever I see them reasonably priced. I think I have 35 of the unc and 50 of the proof now? I would leave it in the original packaging. Not sure I would sell it, what would you get for it? But, I would buy more!!
Thanks for your input everyone. I'm not really attached to this set so I'll probably sell it and buy a... oh I don't know, maybe a strawberry token.
