Hello, Look what I just added to the collection... A 1762 Russia 2 Kopeks, however it is troublesome to me that it weighs only 19.4 grams instead of the 20.48 in the Krause. Here's a front, reverse and side shot. Anyone specialize in these or knows if they have been in the eye of a counterfeiter before?!! Oh and if 1 gram is an acceptable weight loss which it doesn't sound to be... would this grade VF? hoping I don't have to return it... Thank you RADhya:
Dear rad, please don't worry about the weight descripency. Usually copper coins during that era are within a tolerance level of +- 10% and yours is well within that range. There are extreme cases where coins are well beyond reasonable tolerance level and those are certainly rare if those are genuine. I would be shocked if your coin is a counterfeit. That said, your 1762 2 kopek is not too common and I should congradulate you for that. Thanks for showing!
I generally don't like coins of 18th century but this is a rather beautiful coin. Thanks for sharing. The edge design looks unique too. Very nice :thumb:
Don't worry, there is a pretty good tolerance level. I see no reason that it would be counterfeit. Congrats on the beautiful coin! :thumb:
ahh good to know, when I saw this coin, and the way it looked, I knew I should be the proud owner Do you think this would make a VF grade? I am not sure of its grade but when I compared it to a similar one someone graded at VF and this one looks better. RAD
