Is there anyone who can give me any information on this bronze 34mm, 19 gram medal or coin? It's got Peter and Paul on the obverse and Pope Benedict XIV opening holy door, presumably commemorating 1750 Jubilee. Do you think this is a real 1750 coin or a commemorative replica or outright fake? I've only seen two. One for $30. and one for $90. I would be grateful for any info, opinions, or speculations

I don't know what I've got but I sure like it!

I don't know, but the surfaces feel modern to me.
Here's a 1750 jubilee coin for comparison: (Gubbio, Quattrino)

Well, I'm not much of a Medal collector. More of a Metal man(and Rock n roll)!
Speaking from outside the box, I think it looks good compared to the "real deal".
Can we compare to the correct medal please? I can't find any....:arghh:
    Just another version.

This photo is from a French seller and is the only other one I could find. It's a much better photo than the ones I posted above (which are out of focus), and the coin's surfaces look better.

@The Eidolon : I love your 1750 jubilee coin. I want one. Thanks much for the comparison.

    Found my other jubilee coin.
    Papal States, 1600, Clement VIII
The Krause guides only go back to 1601, so I'm not 100% sure about my attribution, but it fits the pattern of the other Holy Year coins. Papal States 1600 Clement VIII copy.jpg

As for the original coin, I don't know a good guidebook for these kinds of medals. I would imagine they don't circulate, so the lack of wear is not necessarily a warning sign. But 200-400 year old copper does tend to show some greening of the surfaces, which I see on the pictures from the French seller, but not on the original set of photos. The original photos just don't look much like what I usually see 270+ year old copper to look like.

Here are come other 1700s coppers just to compare the surfaces:

I have many more examples if you like, but I don't want to clutter up your thread.
