Is this an Spanish/Austrian Carlos the Pretender 2 Reale? Politics and Royalty make strange bedfellows...

    Thanks

That's a really nifty monogram of Carlos on the reverse! I've noticed that a lot of monarchs went to a lot of trouble to design really clever ones.Check out this Charles II.Anyone else have unique looking monogram coins??

    Spanish Piece of 2.

Bone, yes this is a Spanish Piece of 2.Pretender-King Carlos III was from the Austrian Hapsburgs. The War of the Spanish Succession broke out as a result of the death of the childless King Carlos II in 1700.King Carlos II was a Hapsburg. He ended up leaving his empire to the Duc de Anjou (Duke of Anjou),who came from a cadet branch of the Bourbons. The Duc de Anjou became King Filipe V (King
Phillip V) & ruled until his death in 1747,apart from a brief interruption in 1724.The Spanish Bourbons are today the senior branch of the Bourbons, whereas, the Bourbon-Orleans branch is actually a cadet branch who ruled France between 1830 & 1848.

    Aidan.
