Thanks for you response BNB. I tend to agree with you on its value. I have been on ebay but have not come across anything similar. The coin appears to be from the french invasion at Louisboug at the turn of the century an is in fine condition.

It's because age has nothing to do with the value of a coin. There are plenty of ancient coins, 2000 years old or older, that are worth less than $10.

The coin is fairly common, and all of them from all mints are roughly worth the same amount. Yes, it has to do with condition. In Fine condition or less the coin is worth about $20.

Now, want to see an example of what I mean. Take this coin, it has the lowest mintage of the entire series. And it is an uncataloged variety. The finest example known in existence. I have only ever seen 1 other even listed in any auction catalog for sale, and that one was beat to death. This wa sone was graded MS64 and slabbed by NGC.

Care to guess what I paid for it ?

I paid $1250 for the coin. But like I said, 2 examples known. What does a US coin of that rarity sell for ?

I do apoligize for the random price I stated but Iam just new at this.I find it all so very overwhelming at the present, but I am sure as time goes on things will seem clearer in the world of coin collecting.
