Looking in my coins of England book it is a half crown of Charles the 1st it lists at anything from £100 up to £1000+ for a fine example, unfortunatly there are rather a lot of variations of it and without knowing the mint mark I cant be of more help De Orc
Hey Sylvester - you awake yet ?? I can't find any examples with the same design - gonna need better books than the ones I have for this
Quality of the 1/2 crown pictures in Krause is very poor, and there are at least a couple dozen possible candidates with variations in the design of the horse, rider, and reverse arms. There are also silver and base metal versions, some of which appear to be hammered and some of which look like they were struck. All of the candidates seem to have been minted in 1642-45, both with and without date legends. to CoinTalk HNICKY9, but you'll have to excuse me - I'm going back to studying my much less confusing Japanese coins.
There are 126 known varieties for this coin - and that does not count the siege coin versions I always knew there was a reason I stuck with French coins
It looks like a Shrewsbury mint issue (Coincraft ref: C1HC-580) which is listed as £800 in VG and £1,500 in Fine. Obverse image is not good enough for me to confirm with 100% certainty though (can't see the lis mm). One oddity is the reverse legend reads `regna' instead of the usual `regno', but with many of these issues there were variations on the variation. If genuine, it would be well worth an authentication fee, and getting it authenticated is exactly what I would recommend that you do. Ian `Not Sylvester'
