I bought $470 Kennedy halves from a teller at a new source bank. She told me they came in loose and in CWRs and the teller finished wrapping the loose ones. Then she told me to come back the next day as her co-worker had $100 in CWRs. I picked them up as well and over the weekend started going through them. The first batch gave up exactly one NIFC and no silvers. I figure whoever brought them in already pulled any silvers or the teller did. I told myself I would not bother going back there in the future. But, tonight I opened the other batch (presumably from a different customer) and found 14 NIFCs & a gold plated "souvenir" coin stamped after minting with the dates 1960 & 1986. Further evidence that you just never know.....
For half dollars, NIFCs are coins minted from 1987 (P&D), 1970 (D), and from 2002 (P&D) and forward. I also consider proof coins to be NIFCs as well.
I understand the proof and uncirculated mint sets being NIFC, but who made the/a list of other dates to fall into this designation?
I'm assuming you're referring to 2002 onward, right? The Mint simply did not release any for circulation. The only way to buy them is to buy them from the Mint (either in Mint sets, bags, or rolls).
Got one, only use it for reference, have not read it like a novel. And don't be so grumpy life is to short.
I know about the NIFC for Halves. Last year my girlfriend found several 2016's in one box and then we went on vacation and hunted there and found a few more 2016's in one box. We tried to figure out if they were NIFC why are we finding so many. Any light on the subject? They were in beautiful condition too.
