Sorry it took so long ..rough day at work. Here is the full photo of the 14d. Hope it's good news. Mark
Was startin to feel a little quezzy. Not gonna tell my son either way it goes...or wife for that matter:whistle:
I don't like the shape of the M/M. The inside of the D should have the shape of a house to it more than a triangle. I don't like the length of the upper serif in comparison to the bottom, gives it that fake D look like you often see on fake 16-D mercs. I wouldn't buy this coin as a genuine 14-D, but that's just me.
I was thinking the same about the mint mark but the lighting used for the op's image was at about 10 o'clock and gave the 1 and 9 in the date the same look at 10 o'clock as the upper serif has. That made me think the upper serif was not as long as it looks in the image.
Tough to tell, but if its an added mintmart its a great job. The mintmark has worn evenly with the date and rest of the coin. I agree with RLM on this one, I think its authentic.
Good enough for me. Glad to hear it. Can I remove this post now before I get any bad info..Just kidding thanks again for the inciteful information and assistance. Mark
look between the rim and the bust... on some genuine examples there is a die crack running from the bottom of the bust to the rim.... The position of the MM is correct... the shape is a little funky... I'm still about 50/50 on this coin... send it in, I would be interested to hear how it comes back
doesn't necessarily condemn this coin... I was just going through my references for die markers that could have been one that would have said yes for sure...
I think wrong M/M. It was my first instinct and after thinking it over, I can't get away from it. I say added D.
It looks like the real thing to me. The triangular opening in the mintmark is a diagnostic, and the distance between 1 4 looks right. Should have no trace of designer's initials VDB on Lincoln's shoulder. I think it's a winner! Best Regards, George ============== VDB Coins
