I looked at the PCGS price guide and have seen that high grade 2017 Denver pennies can go for as much as $1350 dollars I was wondering if there is any truth to this as I'm new to the hobby and am shocked that a penny that new can sell for that much. I obviously haven't had this penny graded yet but to my untrained eye it looks near
un-circulated. I would also like to apologize for the quality of the pictures as the first two picture are with my Phone with OK lighting and the last two are with a better camera but worse lighting.

Even if it's true anyone who pays that for an (MS 69? MS70?) Modern zinc cent, has more money than brains. Just my opinion.

There arent any graded higher than ms68 to my knowledge, so its quite hard to find a coin that will achieve the high grades.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

The first thing you have to realize is that PCGS establishes their own price guide, and they love to blow their own horn.

You also have to realize that, while a high initial price might be applicable for some bidiot wanting to add a high-grade coin to their Registry Set, you will often find that, once the feeding frenzy has ended, prices tend to drop, sometimes drastically.

Furthermore, based on your comment that your coin looks "near un-circulated" tells me that you do not yet have the ability to grade coins for yourself. Perhaps it would be best for you to buy a book on grading such as the one below.

In the meantime, save the coin and save your money until you have gained more experience.

    Good luck!

That would be an interesting contest; what is harder to find, an MS70 2017-D cent, or someone willing to pony-up $1000+ for it?

As mentioned above only 3 have been graded 68R, none higher. A 67R will go for about $75. I suspect it is only an offering price as only 500+ total have been graded, so get what a seller can before the price drops.

The cent without question, like not even remotely close to which would be harder to find. You'd need to add another 0 for the final sale price if one was ever sent in and graded a 70.

There is no way I would ever pay even the $1000 for copper-plated zinc. The electromotive differences between these two metals is a ticking time bomb.

Personal preferences have nothing to do with a market. There's plenty of things I wouldn't pay what they would cost, but it doesn't change the fact that they would still cost that if I wanted it.

Agreed. It's like horses. Sorry, I don't want to buy something that is going to die and maybe break a leg before then. I don't buy Red copper because in a while it will be Red-Brown copper, whether I do something or not. Time is the great equalizer.

They don't get any from me. I have been thrown off of them riding bareback, been brushed off against trees, and had them lose me by drinking from a stream (I went over the top and into the water). These all happened before I was 14. I don't trust them. I respect them, but I don't trust them. Like Mob Bosses.

Ok - too many hobbies, and not enough knowledge; what's the premium for, for 2017 D?

    Doubling? Low mintage?

Well, I am not going to be having anyone grade this coin, but I really like it. And, I wonder if it could be a proof coin?

Regular business strike. Shiny does not equate to proof.
