I bought this box at a flea market about 30 years ago. Just curiosity justified the purchase. Majority of the pennies are dated in the 1950's. Gave 5 usd for it. Never really looked at many of them. Did'nt know the terms Anyway if some one could enlighten me what they mean. IE BIE
Tell us what terms you're curious about and we'll see what we can do. Or you could Google them. E.g., if you Google "coins bie" one of the first links you'll see is this: http://coinauctionshelp.com/bieerror.html#.WKdg-1XyuUk A BIE mint error or variety is exclusive to Lincoln Cents and is caused by a die break in the area of LIBERTY, and involves the letters BE. The die break is between the BE and looks something like an I, so it's calle B-I-E or BIE error, variety. The die break is an actual piece of the die that fell off the die and the planchet metal filled it in, so a BIE error break will look raised and irregular. What Is A BIE Mint Error?
Just look at the attention to the detail. This is a really interesting find. It appears this person was well into classifying these error types generations ahead of the camera-phone Sherlocks. Unless you have reason to sell anything, I'd keep this whole thing intact. Take the coins out that come out, if that's what you want, look at them, then put them right back. We talk about how things were done. This is a slice of it, right here. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't think of disturbing it. And for a 30-year-old "fin," you did very good, Boomba from Jersey, by my book.
I'll take a few out photograph them and post them with the comments on the envelope. We'll see if the original collector knew what he was talking about
That stash certainly is worthy of some research. No telling what's in there. If you got it for $5, I bet no one except the original collector has checked.
